Daniel was first spotted in our neighborhood in 2019

Daniel was hanging around for a few years before we captured Daniel 'R' FOSTER on March 21st, 2022. He was released April 12th, 2022 [TNR]
His profile photo looks so sad, so, on the right is a more recent picture of Daniel, looking much more handsome!Callisto was also with us at this time until she recovered from surgery. And to get more socialization.

Daniel is a feral grey tabby cat that has been visiting us for three winters. He's had a rough life so far, many fights; the latest of which left his right ear and left side of his neck badly damaged. After these latest injuries, I was determined to try and get him some help. I had no hope of catching him without the trap provided by the Urban Cat Coalition.
(Update on "injuries": turns out, the ear/neck damage was self-inflicted due to a large ear polyp! It must have been driving him crazy!. Poor boy.)
Amazingly enough, I DID manage to trap him on the morning of the 21st which was perfect timing. Daniel went to the TNR clinic that morning; I picked him up later in the afternoon after he was fixed and after he obtained some much needed TLC. Antibiotics, etc. to help him heal. So, if you can . . .

Overall, we have made good progress these last few weeks on our feral population. It feels great knowing several neighborhood felines will have better lives moving forward.

March 27th, 2022
Both Daniel and Callisto are still with us. Daniel needs further vet care before we can release him.
Callisto needs more socialization.
April 4th, 2022
Daniel is in surgery for an ear polyp and a broken canine tooth. He will recover with us and then be set free.

April 12th, 2022
Daniel had a rough time of it; he had to have surgery for an ear polyp and broken tooth. He scratched at his ear after surgery which caused it to bleed again. Recovery took longer than expected, however, at this time he seems to be okay.
We released him back into the neighborhood. We hope he continues to visit us so we can keep an eye on him for any additional problems.

P.S. Callisto still needs more socialization, so she is still with us.

After release, we did not see Daniel for a few weeks, but he eventually did come back
and is now visiting our porch daily for a meal.
I am so happy we were able to help him, he looks so much better. I'm sure he is grateful. LOL.

Daniel has proven to be quite a snuggle boy over the last year. At first, I didn't think he would be adoptable, but now I realize he would be just fine as an indoor boy.
I wish I could find him a home, but I fear with his chronic ear polyp condition, it would be a tough sale. Surgery is expensive and he will have to have the polyp removed quite regularly, I imagine.
But he is doing just fine with us, he has Smokey Clippy to keep him company!

Daniel is continuing to have breathing and ear issues; he received a CT scan today to see what's going on in his skull.
After multiple visits to the vet, they were unable to determine exactly what and where the issue was. After various drugs, blood tests etc. with no improvement it was decided a CT scan was needed to determine where the exact problem was. The scan showed he had a growth in his nasal sinus area ("Nasopharyngeal polyp with complete airway occlusion at the level of the rostral nasopharynx. This polyp is prioritized to originate from the right auditory tube.") which was causing his labored breathing. The removal of the mass required a total ear ablation.
On August 13th, 2024, Daniel had his ear ablation surgery; as of this writing (July 2025, almost one year later) he is having no issues with breathing. His balance is not what it used to be, he has a floppy right ear, and is mostly deaf, but his quality of life is much improved. His remaining left ear still collects a lot of goop (hopefully this will not require anything more than cleaning!) but time will tell.
