Kittens - in another home, still in foster care as of August 25th, 2022

Mittens was released on August 25th, 2022 in the neighborhood she was trapped in.
She has a wonderful family taking care of her, and other feral cats. Live long and prosper Mittens!

Mittens and her three kittens came to us on July 9th, 2022.

Mittens is a very feral mom cat; we need to give her time to feel safe before we handle the kittens.
We will leave her and the kits alone for several days while Mittens gets used to her new place.

FIRST DAYS, MITTENS VERY UNAPPROACHABLE!

We could barely see the kittens; as long as I could see 3 moving heads, and evidence of nursing, I figured they were okay!

Through July 15th, 2022

Finally managed to get a photo of the kittens, not great pics, but at least I can count 3 little heads.

Update - July 21st, 2022

Over the last week or so, I tried to use a long spoon to get the kittens out while Mittens was in the carrier, but she always swatted at the spoon and knocked the kitten off!

Finally, Mom exited the carrier on the morning of July 18th; she was high up on a shelf which gave us time to get weights, give much needed drugs, and take some pics of the kittens. Mittens is very aggressive; I was concerned she might jump on my back while I was holding the kittens, but she just glared at me instead.

The kittens were suspicious and did a fair bit of hissing and swatting, however, this was kind of adorable. Each time I hold them they are less and less concerned about my presence. I am confident we will have three well socialized kittens in a few weeks.

Yay!

So, Mittens' SOP seems to be, in the wee hours of the morning (why is it always in the wee hours of the morning???) she takes a break from the kittens and perches on the upper shelf in the room. I am hoping this trend continues so we can handle the kittens and get them socialized. It has worked the last three mornings. Keeping my fingers crossed.

In either case, they will be much more mobile soon; they will be wandering around which will give us time to socialize with them.

Two wee ones, Marlee and Marnie.

Up to August 5th, 2022

On August 9th, the three kittens left to go to another foster Mom to ensure they would be socialized.
(I had my hands full with Mittens, Howler and Sadie!).

So, Mittens is still with us; these are the last photos of the kittens while with me, but not the last photos I will see of them!
